When I first started the ideation process for this collection, I already had a concept in mind. In my Textiles class at SCAD, we had to come up with five different concepts for a Textile collection and I started becoming inspired by peacocks. Although I chose a different concept for that project I was still very interested in and a little obsessed with the captivating colors and beauty of peacocks. I knew that’s what I wanted my first collection’s concept to revolve around. In researching peacocks, I learned that peacocks are not born beautiful. Peacocks are a tremendous reminder that true beauty takes time and is only achieved through growth and transformation, much like my brand, Designs By Knicolez, and this collection. With this in mind, Captivate was born.

My very first collection is dedicated to my late Aunt Faye Bryant Spruell. She was one of the most radiant women I have ever known in beauty, mind, spirit and soul. She always told me that I was really good at what I do and to never let anyone stop me from reaching my goal to become a fashion designer. Aunt Faye, your words and impact on my life will never be forgotten. You were truly 𝘊𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨. Forever in my heart. This one is for you.
